    Opera, long considered the total art form, brings together all the scenic arts into a perfect artistic synthesis. And when Chants Libres creates opera, it becomes a total art form with extras, pushing the limits of opera to its farthest reaches.

    You are the key to the creation of new opera. Your donation helps support the work of our artists, the showcasing of their exceptional talents, and the creation of unforgettable moments for our audiences.

    There are many ways to give:

  • Conversation with Jean Décarie, one of the Videographers of Alexandra

    Jean Décarie, also known as Neam Cathod, is a veritable multifaceted artist, a one-man orchestra of video, multimedia, interactivity, research-creation and electro-acoustic music. He has collaborated with Chants Libres since 2007 when he worked as the visual designer on the augmented opera Alternate Visions (music, John Oliver / libretto, Genni Gunn).

  • Call for submissions — Oper’Actuel 2013 Works In Progress

    Chants Libres is putting out a call for submissions to composers who wish to participate in Oper’Actuel 2013 Works In Progress, to be held in March 2013, in Montreal.

    Under the supervision of Pauline Vaillancourt, this 4th edition of Oper’Actuel 2013 Works In Progress, is presented in collaboration with various Quebecois professional music teaching institutions.

    As in previous editions, up to 6 excerpts from the selected operas will be workshopped by singers and musicians from conservatories and universities, as part of their studies in contemporary music.
