  • Auditions for the next new opera by Chants Libres

    Chants Libres is looking for sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, baritones and tenors for its next new opera, Arias. Chants Libres is celebrating its twentieth anniversary by presenting arias from all of the 13 new operas created since the company founding in 1990. Directed by Pauline Vaillancourt, Arias will be performed on May 14, 2011 at the Monument-National in Montreal, in collaboration with the original creative teams of each production, and the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM) conducted by Lorraine Vaillancourt.

    Auditions for Arias:
    Wednesday March 3rd, 5:00 pm to 10:30 pm
    Wednesday March 10th, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

    For twenty years, Chants Libres has been offering an operatic repertoire reflecting all the colours of modernity, and continues its tireless exploration of new techniques and approaches to the vocal arts. Working closely with creators and researchers from all artistic disciplines, the company aims to showcase every facet of the voice. Chants Libres explores opera in all its forms from chamber operas, a capella operas, operas with small ensembles, large orchestras, or electroacoustic music, while pursuing experimental, traditional or groundbreaking approaches.

    After the unequivocal success of the production of L’eau qui danse, la pomme qui chante et l’oiseau qui dit la vérité, the 13th new opera by Chants Libres seen by more than 1400 people, the company is already working on many important projects:

    • International Voices 2010, a professional workshop for singers slated for June 2010
    • Auditions for the 20th anniversary celebration for Chants Libres in February/March 2010
    • The remount of The Ice Child as part of the Vox Clamans Festival organised by the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York City in July 2010
    • Preparation for the special event to honour Chants Libres’ 20th anniversary planned for Spring 2011
    • The creation of Chants Libres’ next new opera for 2011-12 Alexandra inspired by the life of the explorer Alexandra David-Néel
