For Chants Libres, the year 2018 is starting with the presentation of some of the iconic costumes from our operas on Sunday, January 21 at Le Gesù, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., as part of an exhibit created for Le Vivier’s Open House, a free event open to everyone.
This year, Le Vivier wanted to highlight the work of Montréal designers in contemporary musical creation, especially the comprehensive art of opera, thus making the connection between new music, fashion and design.
From Ne blâmez jamais les bédouins to Le rêve de Grégoire, our selection provides a panorama of the resolutely modern costumes that have been created for our operas over the past 28 years by artists such as Massimo Guerrera, Ginette Noiseux, Anita Pantin, Marianne Thériault and Liz Vandal.

Chants Libres is remounting La Porte in 2018
Next June, our company will present "La Porte", by José Evangelista and Alexis Nouss, an opera for solo voice and percussion created in 1987 following a commission by Pauline Vaillancourt.
An excellent opportunity for us to celebrate this influential composer by joining the programming dedicated to him as part of the Série Hommage organized by the SMCQ. Note that José Evangelista also composed the magnificent "Manuscrit trouvé à Sargosse" for Chants Libres in 2001.
Based on the original staging by Joseph Saint-Gelais, and under the Artistic Direction of Pauline Vaillancourt, "La Porte" will be performed by the mezzo-soprano Ghislaine Deschambault and the percussionist Huizi Wang.
5 performances are slated for the concert hall of the Conservatoire in Montréal on June 1, 2, 8, 9, and 10, 2018. Tickets will be available soon!
