In 1997, François Toussignant, a journalist for Le Devoir, wrote the following about the music composed by Jean Piché for Yo soy la desintegración: «The melodic quality of the composition… Piché manages to subtly blend the mixing of the vocals, achieving an ideal that Lully and Debussy also worked so hard to realize… The music creates strong emotions, it is a call to the new, a form of art that nourishes the soul and gives hope.»

The Trials of Patricia Isasa: “Concert of the Year — Modern and Contemporary Music“ and “Concert of the Year — Montréal“ for 2015-16
Chants Libres won two Opus Awards for its most recent new opera, The Trials of Patricia Isasa, which was named “Concert of the year — Modern and Contemporary Music” and “Concert of the Year — Montréal”, during the 20th edition of the Gala des Prix Opus 2015-2016 by the Conseil québécois de la musique, held on Sunday February 5th, at the Bourgie Hall of the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts.

In Montréal in 1997, Chants Libres created this powerful and evocative opera by the composer Jean Piché and the librettist Yan Muckle. A performance opera for solo voice with an electroacoustic score, Yo soy la desintegración is inspired by the personal diary of the iconic artist Frida Kahlo.
A woman re-explores her memories and revisits her childhood… then comes the accident. We enter the intimate world of a young painter who is dealing with the consequences of a difficult life with tenacity, courage and passion.
Created and directed by Pauline Vaillancourt, with choreography by the renowned visual artist Anita Pantin, this uniquely emotional piece will be performed on this occasion by the soprano Stéphanie Lessard.
