Born in the province of Quebec, the soprano Pauline Vaillancourt has performed throughout Canada and Europe in both the traditional and contemporary music worlds. Among her many creations we find:

  • Alternate Visions (2007) by John Oliver and Genni Gunn, directed by Pauline Vaillancourt.
  • L’Archange (2005) by Louis Dufort, Alexis Nouss and Alain Pelletier, directed Pauline Vaillancourt.
  • In Italy in 2003 she created the title role in The Wings of Daedalus by Maurizio Squillante, which she sang in Ascoli Piceno, Metz and Grenoble. In 2004, the opera toured Italy (Rome, Tarente, Pérouse, Gênes et Turin).
  • Pacamambo — l’opéra (2002) by Zack Settel and Wajdi Mouawad, directed by Claude Poissant.
  • Manuscrit trouvé à Saragosse (2001) by José Evangelista and Alexis Nouss, directed by Wajdi Mouawad.
  • L’enfant des glaces (2000) by Zack Settel and Nerval-Quevedo, conceived, directed and performed by Pauline Vaillancourt.
  • Lulu, le chant souterrain (2000) by Alain Thibault and Yan Muckle, directed by Wajdi Mouawad.
  • Yo soy la desintegración (1997) by Jean Piché and Yan Muckle, conceived, directed and performed by Pauline Vaillancourt
  • Le Vampire et la nymphomane (1996) by Serge Provost and Claude Gauvreau, directed by Lorraine Pintal.
  • Les Chants du Capricorne (1995) by Giacinto Scelsi, conceived, directed and performed by Pauline Vaillancourt
  • La princesse blanche (1994) by Bruce Mather and Renald Tremblay-Rilke, directed by Guy Beausoleil.
  • In 1994 she toured Canada with the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (NEM), in Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, directed by Gabriel Charpentier.
  • With the Orchestre des Pays de la Loire (France) she sang Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate and Vesperae solennes de confessore, directed Marc Soustrot.
  • Il suffit d’un peu d’air (1992) by Claude Ballif and Renald Tremblay, directed by Joseph Saint-Gelais.
  • Les Chants Indiens (1992) by Karlheinz Stockhausen, L’Atelier du Rhin (France) directed by Pierre Barrat.
  • Ne blâmez jamais les Bédouins (1991) by Alain Thibault and René-Daniel Dubois, directed Joseph Saint-Gelais. (Montréal, Caracas, Toronto, Colmar)
  • She toured the works of Scelsi in Paris, at the Roma-Europa and the Vienna Wien-Modern festivals, in Montreal and at Carnegie Hall in New York.
  • With Carbone 14 she performed Rivage a l’abandon (1990), and in 1991 Peau Chair et Os, music by Alain Thibault, script by Heiner Muller, directed by Gilles Maheu (Canada, Belgique).
  • She gives a recital at the Châtelet (Paris, 1990) works by Mather, Schumann, Fauré.
  • With the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (Montreal) L’adorable verrotière by Serge Provost.
  • At the Almeida Festival (London) and at the Théâtre de la Bastille (Paris, 1987-88) The Undivine Comedy by Michael Finnissy, directed by Pierre Audi.
  • Musica 87 (Strasbourg) Aventures and Nouvelles Aventures by György Ligeti, directed by Pierre Audi.
  • With the Orchestre Tchécoslovaque (1987) Les Illuminations by Benjamin Britten, directed by Otokar Stejkal.
  • With the North American Contemporary Music Festival (Buffalo, USA, 1987) Phèdre by Sylvano Bussoti, directed by Pierre Audi.
  • La Porte by José Evangelista, directed by Joseph St-Gelais.
  • With France-Musique (Paris, 1987) Du clair au sombre by Serge Nigg.

  • At the Almeida Festival and with the BBC (1985, London) Prologue pour un Marco Polo, Lonely Child and l’opéra Kopernikus by Claude Vivier, directed by Pierre Audi.
  • With Opéra du Nord and FR3 (France, 1985) in the role of Tiresias, Les Mamelles de Tiresias by Poulenc.
  • At the Opéra de Lyon, the Opéra d’Avignon and at the Palais de Chaillot (Paris, 1985) L’Écharpe Rouge by Georges Aperghis, directed by Antoine Vitez.
  • With Les Événements du Neuf (1984, Montreal, Angers, Brême, Paris).
  • With the Société de Musique Contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) (Montreal) and New Music Concerts (Toronto) works by Serge Garant, Gilles Tremblay, Claude Vivier, José Evangelista, Bruce Mather.

As a founding member of Gropus 7 (Montreal,1981-82) she toured Poland and Hongary with Phonophonie by Kagel and Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire in Paris, and between 1985 et 1990 with the Ensemble InterContemporain and the Ensemble Itinéraire, she performed the works of Stravinsky, Dallapiccola, Cohen, Maggi, Gervasone.
