Biography

The Trials of Patricia Isasa is Cristian Gort’s fifth collaboration with Chants Libres after the Augmented Opera Alternate Visions by John Oliver and Genni Gunn, Alexandra by Zack Settel and Yan Muckle, and Oper’Actuel Works In Progress in 2008 and 2013.

His great interest in music from the 20th and 21th centuries has led him to the creation of a large number of new works: symphonic music, opera, chambre music and choral music from multiple sources. He has worked in Amsterdam, Argentina, Brazil, the USA, France, Taiwan and the Check Republic.

Cristian Gort has participated in the creation, amongst others, of he operas Exercices de conversation et de diction française pour étudiants américains by José Evangelista, Prochain départ by Simon Bertrand, the photopera Sans électricité les oiseaux disparaissent by Vincent Olivier-Gagnon, Foudroyé by Ben Shemi, L’arche by Isabelle Panneton, Three Cities in the life of Dr. Norman Bethume by Tim Brady, and also the production of Wozzeck by Alban Berga at l’Opéra de Lille in France. He was also part of the musical psychodrama of La Faim d’Artaud by Analia Llugdar and of the opera performance of Perdre Pied by Jimmie Leblanc, the opera-cabaraet Bungalopolis and the Canadian premiere of the video-opera An Index of Metals by the composer Fausto Romitelli.

Presently the Musical and Artistic Director of the Orchestre Symphonique de l’Isle and of the l’Ensemble vocal Musica Viva, he is also a featured lecturer at the faculté de musique de Montréal aux ateliers de musique contemporaine.
