After his studies in theatre and media science in Bochum, Tobias Ribitzki worked as an assistant and performance director at the Landestheater in Linz, at the State Opera in Hannover and at the Komische Oper Berlin.
At the Landestheater Linz he directed a co-production of the world premiere of the opera Picknick im Felde by Constantinos Stylianou with Linz09. At the Junge Oper Hannover he directed the world premiere of the children’s opera Freunde! by Peter Androsch in 2011, for which he was nominated for the German Theatre Price Der Faust, and in 2011/12 he directed the world premiere of the children’s musical Der Teufel mit den drei goldenen Haaren by Stefan Johannes Hanke. Also in 2011/12, he directed the mono-opera La Voix Humaine by Francis Poulenc, at the Cumberlandsche Galerie Hannover. February 2013 saw the premiere of his staging of the children’s opera Der Räuber Hotzenplotz by Andreas N. Tarkmann at the Junge Oper Hannover as well as the premiere of a scenic concert of the world premieres of five pieces, dedicated to the author Daniil Charms, in a co-production with the ensemble ur.werk
In 2013/14 Tobias Ribitzki staged the Berlin Magic Flute at the Los Angeles Opera and at the Minnesota Opera. In 2014/15 he developed and directed Léa, Papy et le piano céleste-Une histoire racontée en musique for the Philharmonie Luxembourg. He’ll also directed the world premiere of the children’s opera Oh,wie schön ist Panama by Stefan Johannes Hanke as well as the opera Triple-Sec by Marc Blitzstein at the Konzerthaus Berlin.
