Montréal, Monday, November 8, 2010 — Slated for April 2010, Alexandra, Chants Libres’ next new opera is already in the works!
Based on music by Zack Settel, this chamber opera is inspired by the extraordinary life of the explorer Alexandra David-Néel, and relives a covert and dangerous trip she made through Tibet in 1924 accompanied by her adopted son. Having lived more than one hundred years (1868-1969), Alexandra David-Néel was at once, a singer, a journalist, a feminist, a Buddhist, a writer, an explorer and a philosopher.
Pauline Vaillancourt (Original Concept) and Yan Muckle (Librettist) visited Tibet in May to follow Alexandra’s footsteps in order to create and write this new chamber opera.
We will share stories from the journey over the course of the following months.
