Montréal, Friday, January 27, 2012 — Pauline Vaillancourt and her team gathered together last week for a research workshop at the Circuit Est production centre. January 17 was particularly exciting because the singers and the musicians were reading Zack Settel’s score and Yan Muckle libretto for the first time, in the presence of the members of the creative and production teams.
For Zack, this rehearsal, halfway through the writing of the piece, is indispensable for his work. In fact, a composer generally writes for an instrument or a particular vocal range first, but once he has an opportunity to work with the performers, he can more specifically adapt the composition to the voice, and therefore find a better balance with the ensemble.
