New operas composed in complete freedom of expression

Montréal, Thursday, April 18, 2013 — Chants Libres invites you to the fourth edition of Oper’Actuel 2013 Works In Progress. Be the first to hear excerpts of four new operas «in progress» for the pleasure of listening to promising composers and librettists new works, at the Maison de la culture Frontenac, Friday April 19th at 8 PM and Saturday April 20th at 4 PM

More than 11 soloists, 25 musicians, 3 musical ensembles, 2 conductors and 1 artistic director

More than 11 soloists and 25 musicians from l’Atelier de musique contemporaine de l’Université de Montréal, conducted by Cristian Gort, Atelier de musique de chambre de l’Université de Montréal, conducted by Jean-Loup Gagnon and Les salons de l’ombre jaune ensemble, will be seen on stage. The composers (except for Nickos Harizanos, Greece) will be in attendance for the two performances. This special presentation will be hosted by the soprano and director Pauline Vaillancourt, Artistic and General Director of Chants Libres.

Marie-Pierre Brasset (Quebec) plunges us into one of the daily dramas of modern life (La piñata, libretto by Nicolas Lemieux); Kristin Norderval (Norway/USA) gives us a poetic opera which brings big history and small history to life, through the telling of the tragic story of the Argentine Patricia Isasa (Trials of Patricia Isasa, libretto by Naomi Wallace); Nickos Harizanos (Greece) explores psychic meanderings inspired by a classic Greek myth (Médéa Sparagmata opus 135, libretto by Euripides); Pierre Michaud (New-Brunswick), for his part gives us a Felliniesque take on opera (Le rêve de Grégoire, libretto by Pierre Michaud)
